Anschubstipendien für Promotions-/Projektvorhaben
Das TRANSMARE-Institut vergibt aus Mitteln der Forschungs-initiative RLP 2024–2028 im interdisziplinären Verbundprojekt “Maritime Transfers” im Rahmen des Jeanne Baret-Förderfonds in regelmäßigen Abständen Anschubstipendien für Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen, die sich schwerpunktmäßig mit dem maritimen Raum und seinen Akteur:innen beschäftigen. Das Programm fördert gezielt Wissenschaftlerinnen am Übergang zur nächsten Qualifikationsstufe, der häufig mit hohem zeitlichen und finanziellen Druck verbunden ist. Das Stipendium dient der finanziellen Unterstützung in Vorbereitung eines Stipendien- oder Drittmittelantrags zur Förderung der anstehenden wissenschaftlichen Qualifikationsphase. Ziel des Jeanne Baret-Förderfonds ist, angehende (Post-)Doktorandinnen zu unterstützen und dem „Drop-Out“ hochqualifizierter Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen entgegenzuwirken.
Gefördert werden konkrete Promotions- und Projektvorhaben, die sich mit dem maritimen Raum oder in diesen agierenden Personen beschäftigen und thematisch an die Forschungsschwer- punkte des TRANSMARE-Instituts anknüpfen. Die Förderung erfolgt über einen Zeitraum von bis zu sechs Monaten, eine einmalige Verlängerung um weitere sechs Monate ist bei herausragender Leistung möglich. Doktorandinnen erhalten eine monatliche Stipendienrate von 1.365 Euro, Postdoktorandinnen bis 2.000 Euro. Neben der finanziellen Förderung erhalten Stipendiatinnen auch Beratung bei ihren Forschungsvorhaben, Unterstützung bei der Beantragung von Drittmittelprojekten oder weiteren Stipendien sowie die Möglichkeit, an den Veranstaltungen des TRANSMARE-Instituts zu partizipieren.
Bewerbungsvoraussetzungen sind ein zur Promotion berechtigender Abschluss mit weit über-durchschnittlichen Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen bzw. eine weit überdurchschnittliche Promotionsleistung sowie die geplante Durchführung eines Qualifikationsvorhabens mit thematischem Schwerpunkt auf den maritimen Raum. Die Bewerbungsunterlagen umfassen:
- Anschreiben/Motivationsschreiben
- Vollständig ausgefülltes Antragsformular
- Kurzexposé des Dissertationsvorhabens (max. 2–3 Seiten) bzw. des Projektvorhabens (max. 6–7Seiten)
- Tabellarischer Lebenslauf
- Kopie des Hochschulabschlusszeugnisses bzw. der Promotionsurkunde
- Für Postdoktorandinnen: Angaben zu Förderinstitutionen, bei denen ein Antrag eingereicht werden soll sowie ein Zeit- und Arbeitsplan für den Förderzeitraum
Bewerbungen können zweimal im Jahr, jeweils zum 15.03. und 15.09. an die Programmkoordination (Lisa Dünchem, transmare@uni-trier.de) gerichtet werden, welche die Anträge zunächst formell prüft. Es werden nur vollständige und fristgerecht eingereichte Anträge im Auswahlverfahren berücksichtigt. Über die Vergabe der Stipendien entscheidet ein von den beteiligten Verbünden eingesetztes Auswahlgremium. Auswahlkriterien sind die Relevanz und Anknüpfungsfähigkeit des Forschungsthemas, die Qualität des Dissertations-/Projektvorhabens sowie die bisherigen Studien-/Prüfungs-/Forschungsleistungen. Die Bewerberinnen werden zeitnah über den Entscheid informiert. Es besteht kein Rechtsanspruch auf eine Förderung.

Start-up grants for doctoral/project plans
The TRANSMARE Institute is offering start-up grants for young female scientists for research focusing on the maritime regions and agents involved in them. These grants are funded at regular intervals within the framework of the Jeanne Baret Fund by the RLP 2024–2028 research initiative as part of the interdisciplinary joint project ‘Maritime Transfers’. The scholarship is intended to support female academics in their transition to the next qualification stage, which is often associated with high time and financial pressure. In particular, it provides financial support for preparing scholarship or third-party funding applications, thus promoting the upcoming academic qualification phase. The aim of the Jeanne Baret Fund is to support prospective female (post-)doctoral students and to counteract the “drop-out” of highly qualified young female academics.
Funding is available for specific doctoral theses and projects that deal with the maritime region or people working in it, and are thematically linked to the TRANSMARE Institute‘s research priorities. Funding is provided for a period of up to six month. A one-off extension for a further six months is possible in the event of outstanding performance. Doctoral students receive a monthly scholarship instalment of 1,365 Euros, postdoctoral students up to 2,000 Euros. In addition to financial support, scholarship holders also receive advice on their research projects, support in applying for third-party project funds or further scholarships, and the opportunity to take part in events organised by the TRANSMARE Institute.
The application requirements are: an academic degree entitling the candidate to a doctorate with well above-average study and examination results or a well above-average doctoral performance as well as the planned realisation of a qualification project with a thematic focus on the maritime region. The application documents include
- Cover letter/letter of motivation
- Fully completed application form
- Short synopsis of the dissertation proposal (max. 2–3 pages) or the project proposal (max. 6–7 pages)
- Curriculum vitae in tabular form
- Copy of the university degree certificate or doctoral certificate
- For postdoctoral researchers: Information on funding institutions to which an application is to be submitted as well as a time and work plan for the funding period
Applications can be submitted to the programme coordinator (Lisa Dünchem, transmare@uni-trier.de) twice a year, on 15 March and 15 September. The programme coordinator will first formally review the applications. Only complete applications submitted on time will be considered in the selection process. A selection committee appointed by the participating consortia will decide on awarding the scholarships. Selection criteria are the relevance and connectivity of the research topic, the quality of the dissertation/project and previous study/examination/research achievements.
Applicants will be informed of the decision in a timely manner. There is no legal entitlement to funding.
